Specialist secure mobile phone brand Blackphone has signed a master distributor agreement with Big On Telecom for the Middle East and Africa.

The agreement will help extend the Blackphone brand in region. The company said that it is in discussion with telecom operators across the whole of the MEA region for services.

The Blackphone is a smartphone developed by Switzerland-based SGP Technologies, that provides encryption for phone calls, emails, texts, and internet browsing, and runs on an Android OS variant, PrivatOS. Internet access is via VPN.

"We've seen a huge demand in MEA for devices and services that stand apart by placing privacy before all else, and that's exactly what we at Blackphone can provide," said Toby Weir-Jones, CEO of SGP Technologies. "There is no better partner to work with to bring the Blackphone to the Middle East and Africa than Big On Telecom, and we look forward to the official launches in countries across the region."

Ramzy Abdul-Majeed, Big On Telecom Chairman & CEO said: "In this day and age of hacking scandals, Blackphone was created to be private and secure at its core to address a fundamental problem; the loss of control of people's privacy. The built-in features in the device are designed to give a user control over what information is shared and what is to be kept private hence providing peace of mind to the user.

"We plan to have units shipped out to operators in the MEA region very shortly as we work towards official launch in different countries. We are excited to be a significant part globally of the Blackphone ecosystem and recognize that the availability of Blackphone is truly a game changer for the mobile industry - we are honoured to be a part of it."

While typical devices and apps increasingly offer features only in return for users' personal or sensitive information, Blackphone - the world's first smartphone built from the ground up to maximize user privacy - puts privacy before all else.
