H.E. Secretary General praised the pace of ICT development witnessed in the UAE

ITU grants Government Excellence Award to the UAE H.E. Mohamed Ahmad Al Qemzi, TRA Chairman met with Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during his recent visit to Dubai.

The UAE has been awarded the Government Excellence Shield by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

The award, which is in recognition and appreciation of the continuous and tireless efforts in supporting the WSIS and Roadmap, was handed to H.E. Mohamed Ahmad Al Qemzi, TRA Chairman by H.E Dr. Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union.

H.E. Mohamed Ahmad Al Qemzi said: "We are proud and pleased to be honored by ITU and to be chosen for this esteemed government excellence award in recognition of UAE's ICT achievements on an international level, as well as its clear contribution in the roadmap of the development and social goals for the millennium".

"The UAE has gained an international pioneering reputation and it has managed to gain confidence of the ITU member states. That was through its active contributions in all ITU activities and different sectors and also in ITU Board and influent contributions in all decisions and recommendations as well as hosting many international high-level forums and conferences in the field of communications." Al Qemzi added.

H.E. Secretary General praised the pace of ICT development witnessed in the UAE, he also commended the rational vision of the UAE Government and its strategic plan for growth and applauded the continuous support of the TRA to put all the necessary measures in place to extend the benefits of the greater connectivity across the country.

Toure also expressed his appreciation for the UAE's keenness represented by TRA on the continuous cooperation and unlimited support to ITU.
