Apple is already struggling to meet demand for its new, larger-screen iPhones, as it wrestles with a record number of orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, according to a Reuters report.

The news agency said that customers may have to wait three to four weeks after ordering a new device, as unprecedented demand puts a strain on available supplies. This despite the fact that the device is supposed to be available for delivery in the US from September 19, 10 days after the phones were announced.

The new devices are slated for a UAE launch of September 27, though if demand is anything like as strong in the Middle East as it is in the US, customers could be in for a longer wait. Some customers may have to opt for grey-market offerings from stores such as JadoPado, which claims it will have the new iPhones in stock by September 20.

Apple routinely faces supply problems upon the launch of a new iPhone. Last year, when the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C were announced, the electronics giant struggled to meet the demand for the range-topping device.

The Reuters report, however, reckoned that the iPhone 6 supply problems could be worse this year, as the new devices feature a completely redesigned form. The report quoted sources that suppliers have scrambled to get enough of the larger screens ready for production, though it was unclear how this could limit how many phones would be available to end customers.

As ever, Apple has declined to comment on its supply chain, though Reuters quoted an Apple spokeswoman as saying that the response to the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus had been "incredible," with a "record number of pre-orders overnight."
