Kaspersky Lab, a developer of secure content and threat management solutions, has appointed Ghassan Darri as its new managing director for the Middle East region.

Darri's appointment comes after Khalid Abu Baker resigned from the position in May this year to pursue other business interests.

The company said it has strengthened the local leadership team with Darri's appointment and he will be responsible for development of Kaspersky's business in the enterprise sector in the region.

"Taking into account the current quantity, quality and level of development of cyber threats, we recognise the importance of security measures in the Middle East. Local government authorities understand that and are putting a lot of effort in combating those threats. With Ghassan Darri as our managing director and a reinforced management team and local security experts in the region, we believe we can make our solutions more available to home users and businesses of all sizes, and share our expertise with public, financial, telecoms and other organizations that need it," said Maxim Frolov managing director, Emerging Markets, Kaspersky Lab.

"I'm excited about working with a great Kaspersky Lab team of high level professionals, and having the opportunity to apply my experience and knowledge to strengthen the company's positions in the Middle East market. Having worked with virtualisation solutions as they developed quickly over the past years, I expect security to become more and more essential as home users and companies face increasing numbers of threats these days. I'm proud to be part of the forces that protect users, keeping privacy, financial information, data and digital assets secure," said Darri.

Ghassan Darri has over 20 years' experience in the IT industry in the Middle East and North Africa, working with multinational IT companies like Oracle, SAP and VMWare (EMC) in leadership and management, pre-sales, sales, business development and professional services.
