Apple Inc is planning a 12.9-inch iPad for 2015, with production scheduled to begin in the first quarter, according to a report from Bloomberg.

The current-generation Apple tablet, the iPad Air, comes with a 9.7-inch screen and the iPad mini with Retina Display measures 7.9 inches. Insiders said updated versions of both products would be available for the holiday season in Q4, but with the same screen sizes.

Tablet sales are Apple’s second-largest revenue source after its iPhone range and CEO Tim Cook is keen to reinvigorate the iPad range.

Apple is also increasing the size of its iPhone screens in response to consumer demand for phablets, and is expected to launch a 4.7-inch and a 5.5-inch model on 9 September. However, delays in mass production following a design revision of the thinner screens may mean a delayed commercial launch for the products.
