Quality Controller
We join Strategic Alliance & Quality Assurance Manager at Spectrum Group, Pournami Nair as she shares how she spends her day at work.

First Alarm goes off! At 06:30, the second alarm goes off again and it’s now time to wake up and get the kids ready for school. After the kids leave for school, it’s time for some “me-time”. Relaxation and a bit of television, afore the grind.

The Commute
I enjoy a short drive to work listening to RJs and peppy music. As most people would agree, music has this extraordinary propensity to excite you for the day.

Once at my desk in our JLT offices, I start with a prayer. Although most days are uneventful, one definitely could do with a little extra strength to the day. Quality is never an accident. It takes a lot of effort to bend the rules and guarantee a win-win outcome for all.

I check backlogged emails and immediately action plans for the day. An average day would involve a lot of emails, a handful of calls, followed up with a few meetings.

The hardest part of my job is striking a reasonable balance between the roles of building strategic alliances and ensuring quality control.

Being responsible for onboarding new vendors and resellers to the group, I normally have regular interactions with my core team to explore new interests.

Lunch Time
This is the best time of the day. On a long day, lunch would mean a quick snack by the beach. On other days, it’s either with my colleagues or a fleeting visit home.

I interact with our partners to get feedback on their affiliation with us via phone or emails.

I try to dedicate one part of my day to get in touch with our alliances, both vendors and channel partners across the region.

After lunch, it’s more meetings, email exchanges with team members and phone calls to our vendors and resellers partners in the markets we address.

Hit Targets
The best part about my role is the opportunity it presents of meeting so many people from diverse backgrounds, skills and turfs.

A brief unwind session with friends at work and a hot cup of coffee. What I love about Spectrum is the positive vibes and people.

Catching up on more emails and a swift debrief with the team before knocking off.

Reviewing the schedule
I always review my calendar and schedule for the next working day.

A Healthy Body...
Time to pack up and go home. Again, I rely on music to work its charm and help compartmentalise the work scene and switch to home mode.

Time to Relax
I normally have an early dinner and some time with family. I also help kids prepare for the next day at school. I do watch movies although for now, it’s World Cup 2014.

I prepare to call it a day. I have grown up to the adage “early to bed and early to rise, makes one healthy, wealthy and wise”!  I am hoping one day I find some truth in this.
