Synology today added to its flagship line of XS series rack storage products by unveiling the 12-bay RackStation RS3614xs and RS3614RPxs.

The two devices are aimed at large-scale businesses looking for fast, scalable and reliable storage solutions that meet uptime and cost requirements, Synology said.

"Synology RS3614xs and RS3614RPxs deliver high performance and storage efficiency at a cost-effective price point," said Michael Wang, product manager at Synology.

"Synology even brings a higher value and peace of mind to users by offering five-year warranty coverage on the RS3614xs and RS3614RPxs."

Both models feature a dual-core 3.4 GHz CPU and dual PCle slots that support up to four 10GbE connectivity, Synology said. This, the vendor explained, provided 74% performance gains at 3,518 MB/s and 282,660 IOPS.

The devices also come with native SATA III 6 Gb/s support, and read/write-optimised SSD cache support to boost throughput while minimising cost per gigabyte, Synology said.

Synology also claimed superior performance with its new devices, which it said are equipped with 4GB ECC RAM, which is expandable to 32GB. The storage specialist also pointed out the devices' high availability offered through a range of redundancy mechanisms. These include redundant system fans and network ports with failover support, as well as redundant power supplies, which are available through the devices' expansion unit, Synology said.

The two devices can be scaled to 216 TB when paired with two expansion units, Synology claimed. They are also suitable for virtualised servers, having achieved certification with Windows Server 2012 with Hyper-V, VMware vSphere 5 VAAI and Citrix XenServer, the vendor added.

The devices run on Synology's proven DiskStation Manager (DSM) 5.0 operating system.
