The UAE are the third top country tweeting about the World Cup despite not having a national team in the competition. UAE tweeters come behind the UK fans who are tweeting the most at number one and Ireland at number two, according to tech site PCmag.

The World Cup is causing a social media buzz with 350,000 tweets per day about the competition, the top three World Cup hash tags are #Worldcup, #Brazil and #Brazil2014 and the top twitter handle is @FIFAWORLDCUP with over 1.05 million followers.

From 10 May tweets about the World Cup went from 86,207 to 584,892 by 9 June and in just five days there were 236,863 Instagram posts uploaded with the following hashtags: #FIFAWORLDCUP2014, #BRAZIL2014, #FIFAWORLDCUP and #WORLDCUP.

The teams with the most twitter followers are Mexico with 1,450,000, Brazil with 1,460,000 and Colombia with 823,000.
