Ericsson today announced the appointment of the company's current Middle East boss, Anders Lindblad, to the role of senior vice president and head of Business Unit Cloud and IP, effective 1 July, 2014.

Ericsson did not say who would be succeeding Linblad in his Middle East post.

Lindblad has held a variety of positions in business development and commercial operation during his 17 years with Ericsson.

Hans Vestberg, president and CEO of Ericsson, said, "Anders is a strong leader with experience from large organisations. He has been successful in driving growth in very competitive environments. We are committed to maintaining our leadership in radio technology while also building a strong position in the cloud and IP space as the market evolves to 5G."

"Virtualisation and cloud will fundamentally change the networks and ultimately the industry," said Lindblad.

"Our leading position in core networks will enable us to also become a significant player in cloud and IP. I am excited to get the opportunity to lead this strategically important work in a transforming market."
