What is your current role in the ICT industry in the Middle East and what are your responsibilities?

My role is to preach the importance of cyber-security to Middle East organisations. However, if an organisation is subject to a cyber-crime or cyber-security incident before I get to them, I investigate to see how, when and why that incident took place. I then provide a number of recommendations.

What is the best thing about your job?

I have extensive experience in the investigation of cybercrime, incident response and the abuse of IT security and systems. Therefore I’m engaged on a daily basis delivering a dedicated and professional incident response to digital forensic investigations and providing specialist services to customers who have either been subject of a security breach or are seeking to prevent such an incident.

How innovative do you think the network industry in the Middle East is and how can it improve?

The recent history of technology being exploited shows that there is a recurring theme of failing to keep pace with the rate and variety of exploits, the worry is whether the lessons are being learned or is the gap getting wider?

What are the upcoming trends or products in your sector?

Detection and response times are abysmal right now and they are only getting worse. The information security industry is largely comprised of niche tools, each focusing on one small aspect of detection or incident response.

Are you a BYOD user and what devices do you use?

I’m personally not a fan of BYOD, however, it is already here, at least in parts of your enterprise. But, it is undoubtedly not the right solution for every single part of the organisation. By disseminating the right message to the right people, you can slow this development sufficiently so as to identify who should, and who should not be connecting personal devices to the corporate network.

What are your out of office hobbies?

I love and always have loved sport. However, my wife will not let me subscribe to any sports channel on TV! My true love is rugby and if you want to read about the grass roots of the game whilst having a permanent smile on your face then read that all-time classic, The Art of Coarse Rugby by Michael Green.
