Oman’s regulator to cap roaming charges

Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is soon to introduce a cap of OMR100 ($259) for roaming post-paid mobile subscribers.

"The limit is being introduced after the TRA received a large number of complaints of ‘bill shock' from people while using their phones outside the country," said Hilal O. Al Siyabi international relations and media manager, TRA, according to  The Times of Oman..

"Earlier, there wasn't any consumption limit. So, after talking with telecom operators, it was decided that there will be a roaming cap."

No date for when the cap is due to come into force has yet been announced, although TRA officials say it will be later this year. The charging limit will apply to both voice calls and data.

Yes this is often a cause for concern for everybody travelling abroad. I had a friend visiting Oman and even with an International Sim Card from Go Sim it was quite expensive but far less than a call without using a card. If you are travelling anywhere abroad then have a look at using and International Sim Card as they are cheaper and cover 160 in the world.
