The biggest challenge the channel is facing today is the reluctance to transform their business models and embrace change as IT evolves.

What’s your career history to date? How did you end up working in Dubai?

I have completed 20 years in the IT industry this year. I started off as a management trainee with an IT powerhouse in India. I have worked in India, Oman and UAE in the 20-year spell. In 2000, Computer2000/Tech Data was looking for a product manager to handle the HP business and that’s how I ended up in Dubai.

If you could improve one thing about the channel business what would it be?

IT has been a very competitive business right from its inception. It is a source of living for many. For me, seeing an improvement in margins and profits of the whole IT supply chain is satisfying. And that’s what we are aiming each day with our two brands, AOC and Philips range of display panels.

What product or technology should the channel watch out for this year?

IT has evolved so much in the 20 years that I have been involved in this sector and we are seeing so many changes in technology and its uses. Mobile devices are challenging the established role of desktop PCs. A trend we are also seeing is that the monitor is becoming more independent from the desktop through advances in technology.

What is your proudest career achievement to date?

The IT supply chain was in the nascent stages when I began working in Dubai. After 13 years of working with IT majors in the Middle East, it’s satisfying to look back at how this business has grown for vendors, distributors and resellers alike.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

The best piece of advice I have been given is that you are only as good as your team. So, I always work towards creating a good team spirit in my current role.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made since working in the IT market?

Mistakes are a part of our life and career. The faster we learn and not repeat them, the better we get. Choosing a career with the right firm can be hard, but I have been fortunate to work with some great companies in the region.

Which IT company, other than your own, do you most admire and why?

I have admiration for all companies who excel in the area of innovation and make life easier for IT users. So the list is endless.

What is the biggest challenge facing the Middle East IT channel?

In my view, the biggest challenge the IT channel is facing today is the reluctance to evolve their business models and embrace change at the pace technology is changing. Many still rely on traditional old-fashioned ways of doing business. Partners should regularly update themselves on the rapid tech changes taking place in the market.

What do you like best about the company you work for?

I love the freedom the company has given me to paint the canvas my own way. Market conditions are challenging, but the support we receive from partners phenomenal.

What sort of interests do you have outside of work?

I love spending time with my family. I often help my kids with their studies, especially mathematics and science.
