Seagate moves to boost partner profitability Socratous says Seagate wants partners to earn higher margins and build profitable businesses.

Storage solutions vendor Seagate Technology has revealed that the enhancements made to its umbrella partner programme the Seagate Partner Program (SPP), are aimed at helping resellers across the region to become more profitable in their businesses.

The company, which recently concluded its annual Channel Partner Conference in Dubai, said the new channel schemes and enhancements under the umbrella SPP are aimed at increasing partner profitability and margins for Standard, Premier and Elite partners on the programme.

Sofocles Socratous, senior director, EMEA Channel & Emerging Markets at Seagate Technology, said the company has made changes to the SPP to enable partners adapt and transition in the market as the technology landscape evolves around them.

Socratous said traditionally, Seagate has been a dominant player in the hard disk drive (HDD) segment but with the changes that have happened over the years, we have expanded our portfolio to include NAS, external and internal HDDs, home entertainment offerings, solid state and hybrids, video storage and enterprise drives.

"With the shift in the market, largely driven by the journey to the public and private cloud, it was crucial that we help our partners to make the transition with us," he said. "The changes have been designed to give our partners all the necessary tools and resources that help them to develop expertise, earn higher margins and build profitable channel businesses."

Socratous pointed out that the changes to the SPP are inline with the company's main focus areas that include surveillance, NAS solutions, cloud and retail segments in the Middle East.

He explained that part of the changes will see the Seagate expand its in-country channel reach and work jointly with distribution partners to identify resellers that can join the SPP programme at Standard level and climb up the ranks to attain the Elite status. "The Elite tier is the most prestigious level in the SPP offering and currently and we have five partners that have this status in the region," he said.
