Orange Business Services (OBS) has acquired cyber-security specialist, Atheos, strengthening its position as a global player in advanced security services.

Founded in 2002, Atheos specialises in IT identity and security management. The company, which has about 130 staff, works with large French businesses to define, implement, and control their security strategies.

OBS, a unit of France's incumbent telco, Orange, said that the deal will complement its existing managed and integrated security solutions, which it offers in 220 countries.

The acquisition will help OBS to provide its clients with stronger access control, data-loss prevention policies, and proactive cyber defence through advanced identification of security breaches and vulnerabilities, the detection and analysis of "low-noise" attack signals, and on-site crisis management.

OBS will now offer its combined cyber security solutions under a new common banner, Orange Cyberdefense.

"We are very excited to welcome the teams from Atheos; their high level of expertise and proven methods clearly add value to our services portfolio. Security is a critical concern for our customers, which means that the provision of robust security services has now become a strategic priority for Orange Business Services," said Thierry Bonhomme, senior EVP, OBS.
