Etisalat UAE to boost indoor 3G and LTE coverage Etisalat plans to add indoor cell sites across the UAE.

UAE telco Etisalat plans to add some 1,500 indoor base stations to its network in the UAE in 2014.

The operator currently has about 6000 indoor base stations, consisting of 3G and LTE technology, and intends to increase this to 7,500 by the end of the year.

Saeed Al Zarouni, senior vice president, business planning and technology evolution, said: "Recent studies conducted by Etisalat indicate that more than 65% of mobile calls are made within buildings and premises.

The operator claims that it has best indoor coverage in the UAE.

In late December, Etisalat made a public tender announcement for the "supply, installation, testing, commissioning and integration" of a 3G femtocell network in the UAE.
