BlackBerry has announced a $4.4bn loss for the quarter to end of November

Revenue was below expectations at $1.2 billion, down 56% from the same quarter last year. Analysts had expected $1.6 billion in revenue.

The adjusted loss from continuing operations was $354 million.

Earlier this month, CEO John Chen announced in an open letter to the IT industry that "We are very much alive, thank you. Our ‘for sale' sign has been taken down and we are here to stay."

The company said it shipped just 1.9 million smartphones during the November quarter, down from 6.9 million in the same quarter last year.

The company also announced a five year deal with manufacturing giant Foxconn, under which the two companies will co-develop BlackBerry devices.
