UAE telco Etisalat has unveiled two new mobile data packages tailored towards high data users.

Users with voice data only SIMs can now take an unlimited mobile data package for AED999 ($272), which is not capped at a maximum usage amount. Postpaid voice SIM users can use 20GB for AED449, a package that was previously only available to data-only users on devices such as laptops and tablets.

Khaled ElKhouly, chief marketing officer, Etisalat, said: "As the demand for data has increased dramatically over the past few years, our new bundles will target these specific requirements. [...] Activity such as watching videos on YouTube, exchanging files via WhatsApp or using certain apps all consume high amounts of data meaning customers require packages that can accommodate their data usage," ElKhouly added.

The UAE's smartphone penetration is among the highest in the world and mobile data usage is rising rapidly. According to a report by the UAE's Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (TRA), Internet usage penetration in the UAE stands at 73%, exceeding both MENA and worldwide averages, which stand at 41% and 51% respectively, according to the UAE's national news agency, WAM.
