Dubai-based telecoms provider du today announced its readiness for mobile number portability (MNP) in the UAE.

National ICT regulator the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) had previously directed operators to be ready for MNP rollout by December.

Du is now conducting an awareness campaign called “change” to reflect “the UAE’s status as a dynamic society with visionary leadership”.

MNP allows mobile users to switch provider and retain their contact number, a service that was previously unavailable in the UAE, from du or incumbent operator Etisalat.

“We have many firsts to our credit, and we are delighted to announce that now we are also the first telecom operator to offer people in the UAE the option to indicate their interest in switching to du and experience the freedom of MNP,” said Fahad Al Hassawi, chief commercial officer, du.
