ManageEngine launches network mapping tool Anand: Automating scans of the data centre ensures that the L2 network map posted on the NOC wall is accurate.

Real-time IT management company ManageEngine today announced the launch of TopoMapper Plus, an L2 network-mapping application that automatically "discovers" network topologies and renders live L2 maps of their structure.

A network map helps network administrators to understand how devices within the infrastructure connect to one another and provides visibility that aids in fault resolution. In absence of such tools, admins must use packages such as Visio to manually render topologies.

"Automating scans of the data centre ensures that the L2 network map posted on the NOC wall is accurate and up to date," said Dev Anand, director of product management at ManageEngine.

"TopoMapper Plus helps IT and network administrators by discovering the entire network and drawing a map that shows all the devices. The reports and alerts in TopoMapper Plus keep users informed about L2 changes, including recently added and removed network devices."

TopoMapper discovers both LAN and WAN connections and uses SNMP, CDP and LLDP protocols in its rendering. Network admins can also convert TopoMapper into an OpManager installation to gain VMware monitoring, network monitoring, 3D maps and a broad range of other network and data centre infrastructure management functions.

ManageEngine TopoMapper Plus will be available for download on 19 November. Pricing starts at $495 for unlimited devices and map with a single user license. Additional users cost $195. A free 30-day trail of the product is also available.
