A Samsung Galaxy S4 Active mini, may soon be on the market, according to a report from TechRadar.

The tech site cited two filings with industry regulators, one with the US Federal Communications Commission and one with China's Tenaa, for a device designated "Samsung GT-I8580". Both filings are said to include images that "look just like the S4 Active, but a little smaller".

According to TechRadar the filings include features of water and dust resistance and the device will have a slightly smaller 4.65-inch display with a resolution of 480 x 800, as opposed to the 5-inch, 1080 x 1920 S4 Active. This is highly suggestive of a Active mini.

According to the report, the "Active mini" will be powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and 1GB of RAM, compared with the parent model's quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM.

The main camera will be 5MP and the handset will run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. It will also come with the same physical keys setup as the original S4 Active.

South Korea's Samsung has shouldered its way through the competition to become the global market leader in smartphones. Its success is regularly to tied to its short product cycles and the release of several products within the same family that are subtle variations of a flagship offering. Since the March launch of the Galaxy S4, Samsung has brought to market the Galaxy S4 mini, the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Galaxy S4 Active, each of which have been tailored to specific tastes (budget/portability, imaging enthusiasts and sporty users).

Given that a January announcement is expected for Samsung's S5 product cycle, any release of another S4 product would likely take place by the end of the year.
