Brocade has launched the Brocade ICX 6450-C enterprise-class networking switch in a compact form factor, which features the Brocade HyperEdge Architecture, designed to support mobility, security, and application agility.

The  Brocade ICX 6450-C also integrates innovative wired and wireless technologies designed to streamline application deployment, simplify network management, and reduce operating costs.

"Government and public sector agencies expect their campus networks to deliver more services to more users at a lower cost. These services include next-generation business applications as well as anytime, anywhere access for mobile devices. At the same time, campus networks must be able to scale easily to meet future demands and efficiently evolve within a dynamic business environment. Security is a huge consideration, especially today where organizations across the region have suffered from a number of high profile cyber-attacks. The Brocade ICX6450-C compact switch has been designed keeping these requirements in mind. As much as this switch is targeted towards public sector agencies, it is very relevant to large enterprises as well," said Samer Ismair, MEMA Network Consultant at Brocade Communications.

The Brocade ICX 6450-C offers an upgrade option to bring Layer 3 capabilities to the network edge, reducing complexity and enhancing the reliability of enterprise networks. It is sFlow enabled delivering an always-on technology that operates with wire-speed performance. sFlow is designed to dramatically reduce implementation costs compared to traditional network monitoring solutions that rely on mirrored ports, probes, and line-tap technologies. The switch supports auto-configuration, simplifying deployment with a truly plug-and-play experience. The PoE capability reduces the number of power receptacles and power adapters while increasing reliability and wiring flexibility. It can provide PoE power to all ports and PoE+ (30 watts) to all ports when an external power supply is deployed.

"The switch can be used to extend the reach of the network outside the wiring closet, bringing connectivity to more users and supporting additional wireless AP deployment without running more wires. Additionally, it offers Layer 3 routing and GRE support enabling secure and flexible deployment in remote areas. It adheres to the most stringent requirements set by the US Federal market and will guarantee the security of data as it moves across the network. To simplify deployment in-situ, the Brocade 6450-C switch offers flexible mounting options, such as wall brackets and a magnetic mount kit," said Ismair.

Other features include: Energy Efficient Ethernet (EEE) hardware-ready, 12 × 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports, 4 × 1 GbE Uplinks (2x RJ45 + 2x SFP) , 4 × PoE/PoE+ ports, and MACsec-ready for improved security to protect sensitive information moving across networks.
