Following last week's launch hiccups with BlackBerry messenger, the app's creator has said cross-platform availability will not stop with iOS and Android.

"We are open to other platforms also," Gary Klassen told The Mobile Indian.

BlackBerry put the BBM launches of both iOS and Android on hold last week and is currently investigating the issues that led to the decision. Apple's version was launched a day earlier than scheduled and an unreleased version of the Android edition made its way onto the Google Play store.

As BBM alternatives such as WhatsApp and iMessage gain popularity, cross-platform trade becomes increasingly important for the messaging app. One positive aspect of last week's troubled release is the interest shown in the app. The unreleased Android version accrued 1.1m downloads in eight hours and 3m users registered for availability announcements.
