Gold iPhone on the way?
Apple rumoured to be launching a gold coloured version of the iPhone
Apple appears to be about to announce one, or possibly two, new models of the iPhone on 10th September.
The company is rumoured to be ready to a launch an enhanced version of the iPhone 5, the iPhone 5S, and lower cost model, the iPhone 5C.
One of the standout features of the iPhone 5S will be availability in a gold coloured finish. Rumours about a new gold coloured handset for the iPhone appear to have gained credibility after confirmation in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Reuters. Manufacturers have pointed out that the gold colour is easy to create on the aluminium body of the iPhone, and more choice of colour, compared to the black or white previously available, might be a selling point for Apple.
The iPhone 5C is also expected to be available in a wider range of colours, but with a polycarbonate casing.
The iPhone 5S is also expected to include a fingerprint reader, presumably for biometric security, following Apple's acquisition of fingerprint scanner producer Authentec.
The new handsets are expected to run a revamped version of iOS, namely iOS7. The new operating system includes a lot of new features, such as a control drawer, iTunes Radio for streaming, improved Siri and Safari, and lock screen notifications and multi-tasking. The look of the OS has also been overhauled, with new icons, fonts and colours.
