UAE telecom operator Etisalat is on track to launch VoLTE (voice over LTE) services in the first quarter of 2014, a spokesman for the company confirmed to CommsMEA.

The service will mean that customers can use LTE for full voice and data services on a single device.

VoLTE will provide seamless voice services across the UAE, without any delays when LTE users move from an LTE to a 3G network. It will also provide high-definition voice calls, faster call set-up, HD video calling and other rich media services.

Although Etisalat and its competitor, du, already offer LTE services in the UAE, these services are limited to mobile data.

Etisalat completed testing of VoLTE and eSRVCC (enhanced Single Radio Voice Call Continuity), in May. The telco started work on tests with Chinese vendor, Huawei, and US wireless tech specialist, Qualcomm in Abu Dhabi in the first quarter of the year.
