Taiwanese smartphone maker HTC Corp today revealed the compact HTC One mini, to complement its successful HTC One premium-category handset.
The One has helped to raise HTC's brand profile after being rolled out to181 countries across more than 583 networks worldwide.
The One mini slims down to a 4.3-inch display and is powered by a dual-core 1.4 GHz processor. It runs the latest version of Android with HTC's Sense interface design.
"We are proud to be behind the market's leading smartphone and now, with the addition of the HTC One mini, the best smartphone family in the world," said Peter Chou, CEO, HTC Corp.
"The HTC One mini embodies everything that makes the HTC One a success on a smaller but equally eye-catching scale."
The 4.3-inch display employs an HD 720p screen and is available in Glacial Silver and Stealth Black.
The HTC One's BoomSound system is included, featuring dual frontal stereo speakers and dedicated amplifiers designed to reduce distortion and deliver crisper audio. Beats Audio integration is also included.
The HTC One mini's home screen delivers a live stream of information, through BlinkFeed, including social updates, news updates and photos. BlinkFeed is designed to aggregate the freshest content, with more than 10,000 feeds served up daily according to HTC.
The camera is HTC's UltraPixel featuring HTC Zoe. It is said to capture "300% more light than traditional smartphone camera sensors" to deliver "incredible detail and enhanced dynamic range, even in low light". HTC Zoe also takes three-second videos, enabling a range of editing capabilities and creative options.
The UltraPixel technology has been well-received in the past with online reviewers such as Gizmodo rating the One's UltraPixel image capture as superior to even the Nokia Lumia 920, a model known for its low-light performance.
The front-facing camera is 1.6MP and HTC has again included the ability to quickly piece together galleries and share them. Also, Video Highlights allows 30-second clips to include a soundtrack from one of the pre-loaded themes or from a personal music library.
The HTC One mini will be available in select markets from August and rolled out globally from September. No prices are yet confirmed for the UAE market.
