The Cisco VMware Data Centre Solutions course teaches IT experts how to build a virtualised data centre, says Josef Miskulnig, founder, CEO of Fast Lane.

What is the Cisco VMware Data Centre Solutions course?

Cisco VMware Data Centre Solutions (CVDS) is a five-day intensive course designed for building scalable, reliable and intelligent data centre virtualisation solutions, which bundles the power of Cisco & VMware together. This course explores in-depth installation, configuration, and management of Cisco Unified Computing System hand-in-hand with VMware vSphere and the Cisco Nexus 1000V Switch. Significant content is devoted to concepts describing the workings of the different technologies and how they relate, as well as giving ample focus on hands-on management, monitoring and troubleshooting for students.

What benefits does the CVDS course give the student in the regional employment market?

Attendees of this course will be able to describe data centre virtualisation solutions, the Cisco UCS B-Series system architectures, hardware components and field-installable options. Students also learn how to configure Cisco UCS B-Series blade servers with Cisco UCS Manager Server profiles to allocate physical resources and high availability at the LAN, SAN and server NIC level.  After attending the course, students will be able to install and configure ESXi, vCentre Server components, deploy, manage and migrate virtual machines, use vCentre Server to monitor resource usage, use vCentre Server to manage higher availability and configure Cisco Nexus 1000V in a VMware vSphere environment. The key benefit for attendees is that they are exposed to Cisco and VMware solutions giving them experience with multiple vendors rather than a single vendor only.

Is it an essential qualification for regional data centre professionals?

It is a key qualification for engineers that are currently exposed to both Cisco and VMware. Candidates who have system administration experience in Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems and familiarity with Ethernet, TCP/IP networking and SANs will also benefit. We see more and more cooperation between big vendors that we expect will further increase over the next years. This is the reason why Fast Lane increasingly focuses in developing multi-vendor courses. CVDS is our first course covering core topics of Cisco and VMware in just five days.

Who should attend the CVDS course?

Engineers that are currently exposed to both Cisco and VMware will certainly benefit from this course. CVDS is also designed for IT staff working with server system design and architecture. Engineers who have system administration experience in Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems along with familiarity with Ethernet, TCP/IP networking and SANs will also benefit. The course is only taught by CCIEs that have extensive experience with VMware.

What kind of knowledge base do students need to have already?

We recommend that candidates have understanding of server system design and architecture, along with system administration experience on Microsoft Windows or Linux operating systems. Furthermore familiarity with Ethernet and TCP/IP networking and familiarity with SANs is also required.

How many places are there on each course?

The maximum number of attendees per course is twelve. We limit the class size to ensure the quality of the course delivery. With a limited number of students, the instructor will have enough time to go through specific exercises with every student.

What other courses that you offer are good for data centre professionals?

We are currently offering the entire range of Cisco Data Centre courses and certifications. The latest addition to our data centre curriculum is a course called Configuring, Administering, and Operating Cisco Intelligent Automation for Cloud.
