Aptilo Networks, a Swedish provider of solutions to manage mobile data services for Wi-Fi, WiMAX and 3G/LTE networks, has opened an office in Dubai to support the growth of its business in the Middle East and Africa.

Aptilo has been active in the region since 2004, and has numerous Wi-Fi customers in the Middle East including du in the UAE, STC in Saudi Arabia and Batelco in Bahrain, as well as several deployments in Africa.

Aptilo's Dubai office is being led by Christian Jonsson, director sales, Middle East and Africa.

"We see a growing demand for service provider Wi-Fi and for Wi-Fi offloading in the region," Jonsson said. "In Dubai, Aptilo has a perfect location to take care of new business and our existing customers as well as our partners, which are very active in the region."

Mobile data consumption in the Middle East is expected to grow significantly, with users predicted to download more than 2.5GB of data per month by 2018, according to ABI Research.

"For mobile operators, the need to offload traffic to Wi-Fi is starting to explode," Jonsson said. "Aptilo is well-positioned to help carriers manage traffic and also monetise this surge in user demand with proven service provider Wi-Fi solutions."
