Panasonic this week announced the addition of a new single focal-length lens, the LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 II ASPH.

A follow-up model to the LUMIX G 20mm/F1.7 ASPH, the new lightweight lens is designed for enhanced soft-focus operations.

"Offering our customers that extra edge... our new lens is an extension of our efforts to make photography better," said Hitesh Ojha, deputy general manager, Digital Imaging, MEA Marketing, Panasonic.

"The 20mm has been a popular lens in our lineup and this new model is designed to be a compact and lightweight option that offers stunning image quality. Be it for outdoor landscape shots or for indoor photos, the 20mm/F1.7 is a good all-round lens that perfectly complements our GX and GF lineup of cameras.

Incorporating seven lenses in five groups, the new lens system uses two lenses to minimise both distortion and chromatic aberrations.

The 20mm focal distance, which is said to be equivalent to 40mm on a 35mm film camera, is designed for a range of light conditions, including sunsets and dimly lit indoor environments. The lens also supports a Contrast AF system for high-precision auto focusing.

Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that helps produce a smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. The new lens also comes with a metal mount, and uses multi-coated lens elements that minimise ghosts and flare.
