Verdict: In a year that saw Asbis sales drop marginally as a direct result of its decision to drop some vendor brands, the distributor is pinning its future on the mobility business. Asbis has continued to build its tablets and smartphone business, and broadened its channel reach through its new strategy of working with service providers in most emerging markets on the African continent.

What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2013?

We want to continue developing our mobile business offerings around the Prestigio brand. Our goal is to make Asbis the one-stop-shop for tablets and smartphones in the Middle East and Africa.

What were the main reasons for your revenue decline in 2012?

Last year saw us trim a few brands we believe were not adding value to our bottom line. Although our sales were affected, our profitability remained solid.

Has the distribution sector recovered from the market instability in the region?

The market conditions have improved slightly although the volume distribution side is witnessing a sharp decline in PCs sales and this has affected players in the components sector.

What will drive your business growth in 2013?

We have been building the Prestigio brand for the past 10 years now. With the investments and foundation we have laid, we truly believe that our mobility business with Prestigio as our flagship brand will be the main contributor to our profitability.
