Verdict: Metra’s total revenues may have declined slightly, but the distributor has been building a strong foundation for growth going forward. The company wants to capitslise on the opportunities emerging in the mobile devices arena and value offerings in the enterprise space around cloud computing and BYOD solutions.

What are your strategic plans for the rest of 2013?

We will be looking at increasing our speed to market and operational efficiency while continuously improving our OPEX and working capital.We will also be exploring few selective new strategic partnerships to complement our product array. We are also expanding into the rest of the North Africa region.

What were the main reasons for your revenue decline in 2012?

The market is still very volatile, unpredictable and demand for many product categories is declining. There is also consolidation between smartphones, tablets and consumer notebooks, which is threatening the growth potential for the consumer laptop portfolio.

Has the distribution sector recovered from the market instability in the region?

The IT distribution market is still very unstable and this has been compounded by political turbulence in some countries in the region and currency fluctuations. This is definitely impacting the overall business growth in the region’s distribution landscape.
