What is your current role in the ICT industry in the Middle East?

Being Smartworld’s director of Technology, my job allows me to provide key support to the Middle East region’s first Open Equal Access Network model. My responsibilities also include providing system integration services, and I also develop value added services and products for the service providers we work with.

What do you love about your job?

Our work is always exciting and doesn’t feel like regular routine work. In fact, as part of our everyday activities, we are encouraged to develop and produce creative ideas and new initiatives.

How innovative do you think the IT industry in the Middle East is?

Over the last ten years, the Middle East region has been called the “Green Field”, where latest technologies were implemented to support business, government and society. In return, the region has served as the main input for technology and also for R&D, paving the way for new creative and demanding innovations.

What are the upcoming trends in your sector?

Trend wise, there is a lot of attention being focused on unified communications and its eventual growth across all sectors.

What are Smartworld’s green initiatives?

Over the last few years, we have maintained strong commitment and support for key green initiatives and its eventual adoption into today’s technologies. In fact, one example of our commitment is our commitment to offering lower power consumption technologies to our clients.

Does Smartworld utilise virtualisation or cloud computing?

One of the main challenges cloud computing is facing today in this region is the cost of telecommunication links, which prevents the growth of cloud technology. However, Smartworld is offering a unique model of cloud computing, the community cloud, which we own and operate via the DWC Network, stretching across all DWC cities, plots, and tenants. Smartworld IaaS cloud services are offered with free access of up to 1Gbps to all tenants.

What are your out of office hobbies?

Social activities with the family and relatives. One activity that I enjoy is going on picnics during the weekends with close family and friends across Dubai’s many parks.
