Omani operator Nawras has launched Musafir, a mobile data roaming solution designed to help customers stay online for less when travelling within the GCC.

Nawras said that customers can choose from prepaid and postpaid plans with a choice of daily or weekly rates, which will reduce data roaming rates and make life easier for business travelers and tourists. The packages will also reduce the chances of customers suffering from so called "bill shock" when they return from a trip.

"Musafir customers can now keep their data roaming switched on to send and read emails, use social media like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter as well as browse the Internet while roaming, with generous data allowances and considerably lower rates than ever before," the telco said.

A daily plan with 100 MB of data costs OR3 and a weekly plan with 1GB of data costs OR10.

"We are very excited to be unveiling the new Musafir data roaming plans today as these will make a real difference for our customers travelling to the GCC," said Nashat Al Riyami, head of segments, Nawras.

"Musafir will help our customers enjoy fantastic value when they are roaming and wanting to stay in touch with friends, family and colleagues in Oman. At the same time, they can rest assured that they know exactly how little their plan is costing."

Regional operators are still uncompetetive in their offerings. And the offerings are still run of the mill packages lacking creativity .
