What’s your career history to date? How did you end up working in Dubai?

I have been in the IT field for more than 12 years in different areas within this sector in the Middle East region. I moved to Dubai in 2007 as new opportunities came my way. In the last 12 years I have had the opportunity to work in the vendor, distribution and reseller sectors of the channel.

If you could improve one thing about the channel business what would it be?

As we are in the training sector, we are trying to improve our programme structure for channel partners to be more flexible to be able to help them increase their knowledge and skills. This is one of the main issues that many VARs are grappling with at the moment. The sales approach is different in IT; without knowledge and proper skills it’s tough to succeed. I believe in developing more of the tech geeks in the channel into commercial-oriented business-minded executives.

What product or technology should the channel watch out for this year?

First of all, the channel should focus on increasing its knowledge in IT in general with specific attention paid to IT security and training initiatives in this segment. As IT security is high on the agenda of most firms, partners will do well in this segment.

What is your proudest career achievement to date?

I am delighted at the fact that I have been able to manage a high number of accounts in my previous role, which led me to win an award for achieving high growth sales in the regional channel.

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

To maintain focus on whatever I am doing. I firmly believe that if you love what you do you will succeed.

What is the biggest mistake you have ever made since working in the IT market?

In the initial years of my career I changed roles frequently and that caused me to lose direction in my job. I firmly believe that staying longer in a chosen field is one sure way of attaining success.

Which IT company, other than your own, do you most admire and why?

Kaspersky Lab because that company is very focused on what it does and it has developed a stronger business plan so it has emerged in the market from nowhere to attain phenomenal growth and grab market share.

What is the biggest challenge facing the Middle East IT channel?

In the Middle East region, channel partners are always looking for more new initiatives and innovation and in a competitive landscape this can be challenging in terms of satisfying them.

What’s your favourite thing about the company you work for?

Formatech has a warm environment and everyone that works at the company gets the feeling that we are all one big family. The company has been very innovative in the way it offers its IT and business training.

What sort of interests do you have outside of work?

I love reading books and shopping. I usually can go through a book with 100 pages in a night especially if the subject matter is interesting.
