Saudi Arabian operator Etihad Etisalat (Mobily) today announced it has launched a shared account feature using technology implemented by Ericsson.

The new function will allow Mobily's prepaid active subscribers to independently share credit from their mobile account with any prepaid or postpaid customers. Credit eligible for sharing includes accumulated free voice minutes, free SMS messages, and free data.

"Differentiated customer experience has always been at the core of our strategy at Mobily," said Ali Al Dakheel, acting vice president, Consumer Acquisitions.

"Ericsson's innovative technology will allow us to continue to provide our customers with the right services that fit [their] individual needs and ultimately exceed their expectations."

Ericsson Charging System is a scalable, flexible billing solution that delivers "decoupling, configurability, a future-proof product roadmap, convergent real-time charging support, a strong user-experience focus and reduced total cost of ownership", according to Ericsson.

"Today, Ericsson's charging and billing solutions serve more than 2bn users worldwide, which puts us as the market leader in this domain," said Ali Eid, president, Ericsson, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

"Our charging system is fully convergent, supporting all services, all access methods and all payment alternatives as we understand that customers' requirements and demands are always changing, and we are honoured to be able to support Mobily in meeting their subscribers' specific set of demands."
