The all-new GITEX Shopper Spring 2013 was officially opened today by His Excellency Eng Hussain Lootah, director general of Dubai Municipality.
Created under the directive of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the shopping event runs until Saturday 6 April at Dubai World Trade Centre.
DWTC claimed it was the largest launch event in its history 34-year history of organising consumer and trade shows in the region. The Trade Centre said it recorded "more than 3,500 visitors in the opening hour of the show with thousands more packing the halls during the course of the day to snap up unbeatable deals on over 30,000 different gadgets and consumer electronics".
"Today marks a landmark day in the history of consumer shows in the region, thanks to the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE vice president, prime minister and Ruler of Dubai," said His Excellency Helal Saeed Almarri, director general, Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre.
"The launch of GITEX Shopper Spring 2013 and its addition to the country's calendar of shows and events elevates Dubai to the number-one position globally for hosting world-class consumer events and festivals. We thank the exhibitors for their contribution to the immediate success of the show."
Deals offered by the region's power retailers ranged from the latest TVs, smart phones, tablets, and digital cameras to household appliances, gadgets, games and entertainment accessories. Because of the sheer number of deals presented in power retailers' brochures, available at the show, we decided to stick to the smartphones and tablets for our selection of the best deals.
