Bahrain's 4G auction has been delayed by legal action by Menatelecom.

The auction, which should have taken place on 31st March, has been stopped after Menatelecom, which offers WiMAX services in Bahrain, launched a lawsuit to allow it to be involved in the auction.

The terms of the auction had originally allowed bids from all parties, but the three incumbent mobile operators - Batelco, Viva and Zain - lobbied so that only they would be able to bid.

Menatelecom then said that because it is also an existing licensee, it should be entitled to bid as well, and has filed three cases in Bahraini courts to enforce this right.

The auction has now been suspended, and with a court hearing due tomorrow.
