Channel networking facilitator VirtuPort announced today that, for the third year in row, it will launch the MENA Information Security Conference under the theme of Cyber Security and Business.

The conference is to be held under the patronage of His Excellency Mohammed-Jameel Mulla, Minister of Communications and Information Technology for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and will take place from 9 to 10 April, 2013 at Four Seasons Hotel, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

A number information technology and security professionals from a wide array of public and private sector industries are expected to attend the event. This year's keynote speakers include Howard Schmidt, Ira Winkler, Sean McGurk and Ankit Mishra as well as many more from the event's sponsors.

Topics will vary, but key themes to be covered include SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition, otherwise known as industrial control system) security, advanced persistent threats (APT), malware (including targeted attacks) and more.

"As the IT security landscape continues to evolve with rapid growth, complexity and sophistication so does the need to devise security solutions and services to combat such risks and vulnerabilities," said VirtuPort.

VirtuPort cited unnamed industry analysts that claim 97% of breaches were avoidable through "simple or intermediate controls" and 63% of recommended preventative measures are "simple and cheap".

"Throughout 2012 and into 2013, we have seen the region continue to be affected by cyber security threats," said Dr Mohammed Hasan Omar, CEO of VirtuPort.

"The examples are many and the challenge is grave; [our] distinguished speakers [will provide] information [to] help the expected 300-plus [attending] delegates from various organisations to put information security back as a top priority in their organisations."

This year's conference is organised and sponsored by VirtuPort along with Fortinet, IBM, Juniper (Diamond Sponsors); I(TS)2 and MIS (Platinum Sponsors);  Blue Coat, Kaspersky Lab, McAfee and Stonesoft (Gold Sponsors); and Access Data, Riverbed, SolidPass and SourceFire (Silver Sponsors).   Other sponsors include (ISC)2, Arab Advisors, Codenomicon and Verizon.
