Digital security specialist Kaspersky Lab today announced that a report it had commissioned with B2B International revealed that only 28% of companies worldwide have opted for deployment of comprehensive Mobile Device Management (MDM) technology.

While approximately half the world's companies have dedicated solutions to manage and secure mobile devices in their corporate networks, the survey conducted in late 2012 showed just under a third (32%) of organisations had adopted a dedicated security policy exclusively for smartphones and tablets.

An ever-growing number of smartphones, both corporate and privately owned, are being used for business activities on a daily basis. Kaspersky urged the addressing of the trend as its report revealed only 9% of organisations feel it is viable to ban employees from using personal smartphones for work. In fact, 29% of companies have granted their employees full access to the data in corporate networks via mobile devices.

"Using smartphones and other mobile devices for business gives any company a certain competitive edge, making its employees more flexible and able to address tasks and issues no matter where they are and what time it is," said Alexander Erofeev, chief marketing officer, Kaspersky Lab.

"However, bringing these devices into corporate infrastructures requires new approaches to IT security, and neglecting this puts a company at risk of losing crucial data because of a malware attack or a lost device."
