UAE's Thuraya inks roaming deal with AT&T
Thuraya's roaming network now covers users across the United States
UAE-based satellite operator, Thuraya, has signed a partnership agreement with US operator, AT&T, which will provide outbound mobile roaming for voice and SMS to Thuraya users across the United States.
The roaming service, which started on March 15, allows Thuraya subscribers to roam seamlessly with their Thuraya XT-Dual handsets on AT&T's network. Thuraya customers in the United States, including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, can now make and receive calls, and also send and receive text messages.
The next stage of the roaming service between Thuraya and AT&T will enable AT&T customers to roam and use the Thuraya satellite network, which spans over 140 countries across Africa, Asia, Australia and Europe.
T Sanford Jewett, VP of marketing at Thuraya, said: "We are excited to be working with one of the world's leading carriers to provide Thuraya customers in the United States with this service. With more than 350 roaming partners worldwide, Thuraya is the only satellite operator that offers roaming services over mobile networks and we are pleased that AT&T is one of our key roaming partners."
