Redington Value, the value-added distribution division of Redington Gulf, has been appointed as a VMware distributor for West, East and Central Africa (WECA).

Redington Gulf already has a solid distribution presence in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Ghana, Nigeria, Sao Tome and Principe, Central African Republic, Congo, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda, and this deal with VMware will open the virtualisation solutions company to reach out to resellers in these countries.

"The WECA region has been an area of tremendous growth for VMware and Redington's appointment will fuel this growth, adding valuable support to the partner channel and subsequently to customers in the region," said Chris Norton, regional director southern Africa at VMware. "We believe that through their efforts in taking our solutions to and developing skills in the African market, the company will bring the reality of the software defined data centre, hybrid computing and end-user computing to these regions.

"Africa is at a crucial point in developing its infrastructure. This includes the modernisation of existing systems, the adoption of innovative solutions, the ability to take advantage of increased agility, all the while reducing the costs of these infrastructure investments. Our partnership with Redington will allow them to further assist their customer's in making this a reality for businesses throughout Africa," explained Norton.

VMware said with six physical offices across the region, Redington has one of the most diverse reaches on the African continent. According to VMware, the company emerged as an ideal candidate to be a distribution partner for VMware because of its extensive presence.

"Redington Value Distribution has been focusing on providing converged infrastructure solutions to our partners in East and West Africa," said Ramkumar B, vice president at Redington Gulf's Value Division. "It is with this that we have implemented initiatives towards building a team to support the channel and also align with leading technology vendors in the space of converged infrastructure. "

Ramkumar  said the addition of VMware will help us to support the channel not only by complementing the existing converged infrastructure offering, but by also helping complete the overall enterprise software and data centre virtualisation offering. "Redington Value will reach out to its channel with the VMware solutions, develop and establish sales and technical executives, that are able to take these offerings to market through both online and offline mediums," he said.
