Huawei Enterprise, a subsidiary of China-based Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, has signed a distribution agreement with Peregrine, adding the Qatar-based ICT distributor to its authorised partner network in the Middle East.

The partnership underlines Huawei's commitment to the Middle East and will address the concerns of Qatari enterprises keen to protect their IT networks from cyber-attacks.

The appointment also sees Peregrine recognised as a Gold-level channel partner and will see the distributor provide Huawei Enterprise's unified communication (UC) and collaboration products and solutions.

Su Bao Qiang, general manager, Huawei Enterprise Qatar, commented: "Huawei's channel partner programme plays a vital role in our overall Middle East business strategy and Qatar is an important market for us. Peregrine has a strong focus on the hospitality sector, which is set to boom as we countdown to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. With the Qatar government planning to spend $65bn in infrastructure investment, tourism in the region continues to rise. With the eyes of the world on Qatar, security investment is top of the list for enterprises, government and the hospitality sector. Huawei is delighted to provide network surveillance technologies that give peace of mind to Peregrine's customers and protection from attacks."

Biswas Odassery, managing director at Peregrine, added: "The pace of infrastructure developments we are witnessing in Qatar has driven strong demand for cutting edge ICT solutions to meet and surpass global standards. Security is a vital concern, and Huawei enterprise solutions will provide our customers with the most advanced security tools in the market."

According to Huawei, it selected Peregrine because of its expertise in oil and gas, a thriving component of the Qatari economy and a sector where security is of paramount importance.
