Saudi Arabia's number-two operator Mobily awarded contracts amounting to $256m to Huawei and Ericsson, Reuters reported. The expenditure is believed to be part of a strategy to bolster the telco's data offerings in a market that, analysts say, is yet to saturate.

The projects, to be completed by the end of the year, will expand both Mobily's 3G and LTE networks. Ericsson's contract is worth SR563m and Huawei's totals SR400m.

Mobily said it hoped the expansion would also improve efficiency and also claimed that its 3G network reached 96% of populated areas in the kingdom.

Mobily's revenue to the end of the third quarter of last year represented 41% of the KSA telecom sector total. Analysts polled by Reuters expect the company's Q4 profit to grow on average, by 5.1% to SR1.78bn ($465m).
