Zain Kuwait has selected METCO, a Kuwait-based telecoms systems integrator, to implement its LTE carrier Ethernet backhaul architecture.

Zain is the first service provider to offer commercial LTE services in Kuwait. Its carrier Ethernet backhaul infrastructure is based on technology from US vendor, Ciena.

METCO, which is an established integrator of Ciena's technology, provided Zain Kuwait with a carrier Ethernet architecture based on Ciena's service delivery switches, providing an easily upgradeable mobile backhaul solution.

"Mobile operators worldwide are investing in high-speed, low latency networks to support growth and new service demands, but the success of this strategy is highly dependent on the backhaul section of the network," said Eric Sele, Ciena's vice president and regional managing director, South and Central Europe, Middle East and Africa at Ciena.

Bassem A. Jalil, CEO of METCO, said: "METCO plays the role of strategic partner to Zain, helping the operator plan and deploy their backhaul network."
