The existing storage had reached its maximum capacity and no further expansion was possible. Scaling up the capacity and performance was a huge and immediate problem that DWTC faced. The existing application's performance was constrained by the limited performance bandwidth. Therefore data migration project was initiated to decommission the older HP EVA 4100 after migrating the servers and data to the New HP P6300 storage.

The migration was mandated to be performed with minimal downtime of the user applications involved in the migration. Part of the migration was to install new SAN switches and move all the host connectivity to the new SAN switches. Additionally, the customer wanted a solution which was seamless, transparent and that mitigated risk. The traditional approach to data migration would have involved laboriously backing up every system onto tape then restoring the data manually to the new infrastructure. This would have not only interrupted the users but also introduced an element of risk.

The Emitac technical team performed a thorough analysis of the entire SAN setup, proposed a quick migration plan that incorporated the customer mandate for minimum downtime to the user applications, performed careful data profiling, and planned for exemptions and data rejections before the migration was carried out and continued to support the customer post migration which was equally important. With clearly defined pre-requisites, phases and milestones the SAN switches and data migration were performed smoothly.

With the migration DWTC now has consolidated systems, with data and knowledge shared across the business.  According to Emitac, users are experiencing enhanced system performance and availability.

"The New P6300 storage is the latest generation of EVA and has higher scalability in capacity and better performance due to 8GB FC ports helping  DWTC to meet the growing data storage and performance needs," said Emitac.
