Samsung Electronics Co today announced the availability of its new Windows 8-powered ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro in the UAE.

The new ATIV Smart PCs are hybrid devices that can transform from a traditional notebook PC to a tablet at the click of a button.

With the introduction of Microsoft's Windows 8 operating system, Samsung introduces "ATIV", the new brand for its Windows-based devices and a reverse spelling of the Latin word "vita", meaning "life".

"ATIV represents Samsung's commitment to contribute to a new mobile environment by providing users with limitless options for creation on the go," said Denzil D'Souza, business head for notebooks, Samsung Gulf Electronics.

"The ATIV Smart PC line-up leverages our leadership in design and technology and introduces an unrivalled computing experience. The devices truly represent a new era of powerful mobile computing that will empower users to work and create freely anywhere."

The 11.6-inch Samsung ATIV Smart PC and ATIV Smart PC Pro are Samsung's latest set of smart devices, compatible with both Windows 7 and 8 operating systems. The PCs feature a detachable keyboard-docking system that allows users to switch quickly between a clamshell notebook PC and a tablet PC.

"An advanced 10-finger multi-touch screen provides a technological leap in interactivity, surpassing the traditional two-finger touch features," Samsung said. The touch interface allows pinch-zoom, rotation of images and page scroll.
