New Dubai flight sim triple price of real thing
Sixty-minute session to cost AED899
Dubai Mall has launched a Boeing flight simulator in a bid to attract more visitors, but with a price of AED899 ($255) for a 60-minute session, it is nearly three times the cost of a real short-haul flight.
The iPilot, billed as “the world’s leading affordable flight simulator”, allows users to experience what it is like to take the controls of a Boeing 737-800 and fly to one of 24,000 airports around the world.
A 15-minute iPilot experience costs AED299 ($81), rising to AED899 for a full hour at the cockpit simulator controls. By comparison, a one-hour flight to Doha or Bahrain with one of the region's budget carriers currently costs around AED300.
“Dubai is a great place for us to be bringing our accessible and affordable flight simulator experience, irrespective of the clients’ lifestyle or level of experience,” said Wolfram Schleuter, founder and CEO of iPilot.
“Its location in Dubai Mall will give an extra dose of excitement to the visitors during their routine mall visit to taste the adrenaline of flying a big jet,” he added.
A ‘Fear of Flying Programme’ is also available for AED899. Aimed at those wishing to conquer their phobia of plane travel, the 60-minute sessions are designed to help passengers “face their fears and gain a greater understanding of how an aeroplane is controlled by seeing first hand all the safety measures and systems that pilots have to keep their passengers safe”.
Versions of the iPilot are currently available in London, Munich, Berlin, Dresden, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Prague and Doha, with Dubai launched this month and Abu Dhabi, Zurich and Istanbul set to follow.

A brilliant concept to promote. On the flip side the cost comparison with a trip to Doha/Bahrain provides food for caution.
