Fortinet has recently announced key enhancements to address challenges surrounding network, data and device security brought on by the growing emergence of BYOD in work environments.

As part of a strategy to apply security measures for BYOD, Fortinet is introducing new versions of its FortiClient application for iOS and Android platforms that are downloadable for iOS and Android, from iTunes and Google Play.

Fortinet says that the client for Android allows for SSL tunnel mode and IPSec VPN connections to FortiGate appliances. The updated iOS client provides web-mode SSL VPN and has been modified for the iPad. Both versions allow for a fully encrypted end user connection and allow traffic to be sent over a secure tunnel.

Fortinet also includes support for Mobile Device Management (MDM), virtual desktop and third party clients.

Kevin Flynn, senior product manager at Fortinet said: "While mobile devices have tremendous potential for enhancing productivity, the challenge for organisations today is to provide the same level of security regardless of the device or location of the user."

"We're helping organisations of all sizes - from SMBs to large enterprises - deploy a robust BYOD security infrastructure that uniquely combines integrated wireless functions, embedded security technologies and simple, cost-effective licensing," concluded Flynn.
