Kuwait telecoms operator Zain said on Sunday it has changed its management structure, creating the positions of deputy chief executive and chief operating officer.

Hisham Akbar has been appointed to these two roles, having previously been acting chief commercial officer, while Jawdat al-Dajani has been named permanent chief commercial officer, Zain said in a statement.

The telco said the move had been made “in order to maintain the dynamism and creativity within its senior ranks”.

The telecoms firm, which has operations in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan, South Sudan, Bahrain, Jordan and Lebanon, reported a 1% rise in second-quarter profit in August.

Under the new management structure, Osama Matta is chief financial officer, while Hisham Allam is chief technology officer, Saud Al Zaid is chief corporate affairs officer and Antonio Lopez is chief strategies and business development officer.

Zain Group CEO Nabeel Bin Salamah said: “I have every confidence that they shall rise to meet the challenges and responsibilities set in front of them, and shall contribute to the continued innovation and success of the Zain Group.”

He added: “Through our evolving operational model, we intend to continue looking to achieve strong growth across all our markets, which enjoy a high degree of potential.

“The new management structure is meant to introduce further balance between Zain Group's current operational goals on the one hand and its future plans on the other. The pro-active steps that we are taking are set to help reinforce the Group’s competencies in the face of intensifying challenges it faces in the highly competitive markets in which we operate.”
