BPM Solutions: The road ahead BPM is evolving , to become ever more relevant to the shifting business landscape, says Software AG’s Marco Gerzounis.

Every enterprise aspires to high levels of agility and operational performance. Over the years, the holistic management approach, termed ‘Business Process Management’ (BPM) has emerged as the go-to paradigm for achieving these goals, enabling organizations to explore, document, automate and enhance their business processes. Major businesses nowadays turn to BPM to control and continuously improve their processes.

The BPM method is based on the two logical levels of process governance and process management. It can abstract business processes from technology infrastructure, thus enabling enterprises to address consumer, market and regulatory shifts ahead of competitors. BPM tools allow users to visualize, define, model, analyze, enhance, control and re-engineer their strategic processes. Technological advances over the past two years have also enabled BPM to link with other business management methodologies such as Six Sigma.

Although the initial focus of BPM was on automation via information technology, it has since grown to integrate human-driven processes where human interaction takes place in succession or alongside the use of technology. BPM’s evolution continues: while on-site BPM has been the standard for most enterprises, for example, the emergence and rapid advancement of cloud computing, have sparked interest in on-demand, Software as a Service (SaaS) BPM solutions. Private and public organizations have warmly embraced the BPM concept, which is expected to gain even more momentum as companies pursue more efficiencies to tight market conditions.

“BPM is the wake-up call for businesses to stop wasting their time, effort and money due to poor and inconsistent process executions. Given its advanced capability to facilitate change, BPM is the perfect solution to today’s ever-changing market landscapes. Practitioners and adopters can look forward to even more enhancements to the BPM approach that will realize greater process optimization, timeliness and flexibility,” said Marco Gerazounis, senior VP Middle East North Africa & Turkey, Software AG.

For industry, an integrated BPM from a developer such as Software AG fulfils the need to establish long-term corporate standards for both business and IT while reducing the risks involved in IT transformation and consolidation. In processes such as Order-to-Invoice, for example, a third-party BPM system can more efficiently facilitate heterogeneous automation, thus enabling short and cost-effective implementations across all architecture layers. Advanced solutions optimize the process transparency and efficiency of the typical BPM life cycle with a consistent and integrated governance, methodology, content, and tool landscape.

A high-performance BPM system provides a one-stop shop for common business- and IT-governance and methodology. It facilitates and optimizes human interaction, process automation, implementation and infrastructure monitoring. It also heightens the visibility of processes, enhances transparency and simplifies business monitoring. At the Planning stage, a robust BPM framework streamlines end-to-end process orientation and analysis. At the Building phase, it mitigates risk through impact transparency. Finally, BPM efficiently identifies and localizes systems issues at Run mode.
