Vodafone Egypt has selected Ericsson to transform its network. The aim is to provide Egyptian subscribers with high-speed mobile broadband and connectivity on the move with mobile TV and internet.

Ericsson will deploy its RBS 6000 technology in Vodafone's network which is an energy efficient compact site solution that supports GSM/EDGE, WCDMA/HSPA and LTE in a single package.

Hatem Doweidar, Vodafone Egypt CEO said: "Working with a partner like Ericsson on such an important project will enable us to meet our customer's expectations knowing that we can offer all our customers the services, speeds and experience they expect, now and in the future."

Being a multi-standard base station, RBS 6000 will not only ensure an effective transition to other technologies in the future, but will also reduce operational expenses and reduce environmental impact.

Tony Dolton, CTO Vodafone Egypt said: "Vodafone in Egypt is witnessing a major upsurge in both voice and data services and to ensure we provide the best experience to our customers we need to keep investing in the latest technology innovation with our Partner, Ericsson. We are delighted that signing this agreement demonstrated our commitment to giving our customers the best possible experience".

Anders Lindblad, president, Ericsson region Middle East said: "Our relationship with Vodafone goes back many years.  We are delighted to be continuing our successful relationship to help them deliver on their commitment to provide the Egyptian user with high quality mobile internet experience and provide them with tailored and adaptable solutions that will meet the demands of their increasing subscriber base."
